Scandal.

Scandal is one of four items in a research project collection designed to highlight the lives of ten famous actresses from the 1950s and 60s. Many of these actresses are often remembered more for their on-screen personas than for who they were as individuals.

Scandal is a recreation of the 1950s gossip magazine Confidential, which was ultimately banned due to the controversy and scandal it stirred in the entertainment industry. My version of the magazine, Scandal, focuses on five of the most infamous scandals surrounding five of the ten actresses I selected, including the affair between President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe. While this collection aims to highlight the actresses' backstories, Scandal serves the opposite purpose. The irony of this project is meant to shed light on the lack of privacy these women experienced in their careers, and how the public was often more interested in their sex lives than in the success they were achieving professionally. The color scheme directly mirrors that of the original magazine, and the spread layouts are heavily influenced by Confidential.

This project was printed on 5.5x8.5 newsprint paper, saddle-stitched and bound with staples, printed at the VCU Creative Print Bureau.
