Margaret Johnson

Graphic Designer. Photographer. Artist.

Hello!

I began my art career in highschool, starting out with simple drawings and paintings. I have always loved technology and learning more about how to use it, so when I discovered graphic design, I fell in love. I moved from Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Richmond, Virginia in 2022 to attend Virginia Commonwealth University as a Graphic Design student. It was here that I began to learn more about creating art, but also the importance of the reasoning behind it. Coming up with conceptual ideas has always been a struggle for me, but I was able to learn how to apply research to form ideas with substance. During my time at VCU, I have been learning how to work with both digital and printed media, even finding time for some experimental letterpress work. In addition to graphic design, I have been teaching myself photography, as well as shadowing local photographers to learn through hands-on experience.

Last summer, I was able to do an internship for a local marketing company, SweetTalk Strategy, run by Megan Wilson. Megan has provided me with some of the best opportunities, including working with local businesses, learning social media management and strategies, content creation, and has put me in touch with local photographers to work with. I am currently a supervisor at Uptown Cheapskate, and also work for the marketing company, Surge, that manages our social media platforms. I am beyond grateful for all of the experiences and opportunities I have been provided, and look forward to all the connections I will make in the future.

Check out some of my work!
